Can Ceramic Coating Be Removed?
How Urban Werks restores paint by safely removing old coatings before installing new GYEON protection

One of the biggest questions we get from new clients is: "Can you remove my old ceramic coating?"
The answer is yes—but it requires professional-grade products, the proper process, and expertise.
Whether your existing coating has expired, failed due to poor installation, or simply isn't performing as expected, Urban Werks specializes in safely removing old coatings and reinstalling GYEON professional ceramic systems that deliver accurate, long-term results.
Why You Might Want to Remove a Ceramic Coating
Not all coatings are created equal. Many consumer or dealership-applied coatings fail prematurely, leaving behind streaks, high spots, or uneven hydrophobic behavior. Some lose effectiveness after a few years of exposure.
If your coating has lost its slickness, stopped beading water, or feels rough to the touch, it's likely time for removal and reapplication. Attempting to "layer" a new coating over an old one rarely works—it prevents proper bonding and leads to inconsistent protection.
That's why at Urban Werks, we always start fresh.

The Urban Werks Removal Process
Our process begins with a thorough decontamination wash to remove surface grime, iron particles, and chemical buildup. Then, using GYEON Q²M Total Remover, we safely dissolve residual coating material from the paint's surface.
This step is followed by a detailed clay bar treatment, which removes embedded contaminants and ensures the surface is perfectly clean and smooth.
From there, our technicians proceed with a multi-stage paint correction process, eliminating micro-marring, oxidation, and other imperfections. This step also removes any remaining traces of the old coating. It prepares the surface for perfect bonding with the new GYEON system.
Every stage happens under controlled lighting and in a climate-regulated environment to ensure precision and quality.
Reinstalling GYEON Ceramic Coating
Once the surface is thoroughly prepared, we install a new GYEON professional coating—most commonly Q² Flash EVO or Q² Infinite, depending on the client's needs. These coatings chemically bond to the clear coat, forming a long-lasting, high-gloss protective layer that outperforms DIY or dealership alternatives.
By starting from an immaculate, decontaminated foundation, we ensure the new coating cures evenly, bonds completely, and performs flawlessly for years.
When to Consider Ceramic Coating Reinstallation
You might need coating removal and reapplication if:
- Your coating is more than 3–5 years old.
- Hydrophobic performance (water beading) has noticeably weakened.
- The surface feels rough or patchy.
- A previous installer used low-quality or consumer-grade products.
If any of these sound familiar, your coating likely isn't performing at full strength—and it's time to refresh it properly.

Removing and reinstalling ceramic coatings isn't just about fixing appearance—it's about restoring performance. Using the correct GYEON products and surface preparation techniques ensures your paint is fully protected, smooth, and visually flawless.
